Supplemental Nutrition Center Most of the people who come to the supplemental nutrition center at Nyabiheke Camp have recently arrived from a transit center on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The transit centers have no nutritional or health services, as they are meant to act as temporary lodging on the way to a refugee camp. Instead, however, many refugees languish there for months before finding placement in the crowded camps. By the time they arrive, many people--especially children--are in desperate need of care. With a steady diet of nutrient-rich porridge, fresh fruits, and milk, most children do recover.
