Creating Healthy CommunitiesThe 45,000 refugees who live in three ARC-managed camps in Rwanda have fled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Some fled in the years following the 1994 Rwandan genocide, as the perpetrators crossed the border into the DRC (then Zaire) and continued to terrorize Tutsi civilians there. Others arrived in the camps as recently as the fall of 2007, fleeing the former interahamwe and other violent militias. |
