Flooding in Somalia
Heavy Rains Have Left 21,000 People Homeless, Overnight
Floods have devastated communities in central Somalia. 21,000 people have been forced from their homes due to flooding of the Shabelle River - and the situation is likely to get worse. Hundreds of thousands more are at risk. Houses, wells, and latrines have all been swept away.
The American Refugee Committee is seeking to raise $15,000 to distribute emergency supplies to families and assess the humanitarian needs.
People need emergency medical care, clean water and shelter. Unless help is delivered quickly—waterborne diseases will threaten families in the region.
Our teams will distribute critical relief items, such as mosquito nets, plastic sheeting, soap, water purification tablets, and jerry cans for water. The teams will also establish an emergency medical post and conduct a rapid humanitarian assessment.
